A little about my credentials . . .

You should know . . .

At the present time there is no national Canadian certification for dog trainers. Therefore, anyone, whether or not they have even owned a dog, can claim to be a trainer, consultant or a behaviorist. As you conduct your search for a canine trainer, be sure to ask about credentials and ask for references. Ask to observe a class before enrolling your pet. Do not let anyone do anything to your dog that makes you uncomfortable.

My early study of clicker training was under the guidance of world-reknowned animal trainers, Bob Bailey and Dr. Marian Breland-Bailey (since deceased) in Halifax, Nova Scotia and their home city, Hot Springs, Arkansas. In addition to attending annual conferences of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dogs Trainers (CAPPDT), in recent years I have attended training seminars on the following topics:

  • canine behavior
  • canine aggression
  • canine nutrition
  • canine athletics
  • behavior modification
  • professional canine training
  • learning theory
  • scent discrimination
  • bach flower remedies for cats and dogs

Additionally, I am:

  • Professional Member of Canadian Association of Professional
Pet Dog Trainers (Former CAPPDT Provincial Director for Newfoundland and Labrador)
  • Full Member of Association of Pet Dog Trainers (ADPT)
  • Former Therapy Dog Tester/Observer with Therapy Dogs Inc.
  • Eastern Canadian representative of Doggone Safe

I am most proud of being chosen Co-Grand Prize Winner in the 2011 Canis Film Festival with my beagle, Piper. (Click here to read more about Piper.)
